Commonly referred to as 9/11, the attacks on September 11, 2001 were four coordinated Islamist terrorist suicide attacks by al-Qaeda against the United States. Nineteen terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners, crashing the first two into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and the third into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in a rural Pennsylvania field after passengers onboard confronted the terrorists who had commandeered the aircraft. The September 11 attacks killed 2,977 people, making it the deadliest terrorist attack in history. This program outlines the events of that day and how they changed our world.
